Valerio Zanone

Journalist, enrolled member of the Italian Liberal Party from 1955, he was the Party’s Secretary from 1976 to 1985. Member of the Chamber of Deputies, he was Minister of Ecology (1985-86), of Industry (1986-87) and of Defense (1987-89), as well as Mayor of the city of Turin (1990-91). After the dissolution of the Italian Liberal Party (1994), he founded the Federation of the Italian Liberals (FdL), joining the federal assembly of the political party “La Margherita” in 2001. In 2004 he gave birth to the Association for Liberal Democracy. In 2006 he was appointed as Senator with “La Margherita” list, concluding his term in 2008. Honorary President of the Luigi Einaudi Foundation, amongst his final political struggles, it must be remembered, few months away from his passing away, the battle he fought together with R. Einaudi in order to prevent that the prestigious Insitution, at risk of clearance, would end up being controlled by S. Berlusconi and his political party Forza Italia.
